Kindergarten...according to Kate

As we were driving over the weekend, Matt decided to ask Kate about her first two weeks of Kindergarten.  Here's a little insight in to Kate's first two weeks of Kindergarten...

Matt:  Kate, what's your favorite part of Kindergarten?
Kate: Friday Free Time!
Matt: Okay, besides Friday Free Time (basically they don't have anything planned during that time so the kids can pick what they want to do). what's your favorite part of Kindergarten?
Kate:  Cleaning Up! 
Matt:  Excuse me?  Did you say cleaning up? 
Kate:  Yep!  Every day after lunch and recess and rest time and snack time, we have to clean up.  I like that part! 

Kate has also started ordering from the cafeteria.  She likes to order on Mondays (chicken nuggets from Chick-Fil-A) and Fridays (pizza from either LaRosas or Snappy Tomato Pizza). 

She really likes the "extra" classes that happen during the week -- Monday is Gym.  Tuesday is Art.  Wednesday is Music.  Thursday is Library (she gets to see the "Book Lady" at church too).  Friday is...Friday Free Time!

She also said that her favorite thing to do at her desk is her math worksheets.  Currently, they are doing a lot of counting and sorting/grouping things. 

Kate typically comes home exhausted.  Apparently rest time just isn't long enough for her.  She normally falls asleep in the car on the way home and if she doesn't do that, she's been known to go in to her room to "play" and has fallen asleep instead. 

I'm a big kid now

Yes, I'm a big kid now is a line from a potty training commercial, however, we've had a big kid emerge in our household.  First, there was this.  Not only does she go to the "Big" school now, she does this in the morning...

Someone decided that she no longer needed Mom to walk her in to school in the morning.  I believe her words were "I got this, Mommy.  I can open the door myself."  Well, okay then!  Since then, she's been getting out of the car and walking in on her own, often forgetting to give someone a hug and kiss good-bye.  Ahem!

In addition to that, we also had another big change happen at our house this week.  We made the switch to all big hangers in Kate's closet.  No more baby hangers for her!  Her dresses and sweaters (and some shirts) were falling off the baby hangers we had been using so we made the switch.  All of a sudden, her clothes look more grown up like they belong to a big girl!  Perhaps that's because my baby girl isn't a baby anymore.  She is a big kid now!
